The Verdict

I am loving this colour!! It’s the perfect vampire shade. However I had to be generous, applying on a few layers to achieve the full potential of this lipstick. Retailing at £26, it is a little on the high end of lipstick prices. Yes, the packaging is slick, the lid is magnetic and snaps on in a very sophisticated way. But does this warrant spending £26? The sensible part of me says no, but the naughty side of me says this colour is banging. It’s a good lipstick, it is moisturising and goes on very silky giving your lips a beautiful shine. NARS claims that this lipstick gives a full coverage in a single stroke, but I disagree with this claim as I had to apply quite a few layers to get full coverage. Although I like this lipstick, I’m not in a rush to buy more shades from this range as I feel that there isn’t anything majorly special about it that makes it stand out from other lipsticks.

Hair Transformation | Black to Platinum Blonde (Phase ONE)

5 and a Half Hours in 3 Minutes and 43 Seconds

Just going for it

I loved my long black hair, it was my comfort blanket and it was safe. But I’ve had the same hair style since school and knew it was time for a change. I was a hair stylist’s nightmare, only getting a tiny trim every 6 months and using the occasional box colour to lighten my hair when I felt impulsive. I have been wanting to make a drastic change to my hair for a long time but I have chickened out every time. This time, my amazing friend Melissa Lovell talked me out of copping out. Melissa is a hairstylist/colourist/hair extensions specialist based in Novo, Southend. She has been in the hair industry for over 15 years and I knew I would be in good hands.

Commitment

Having your hair coloured is a commitment. I am aiming for platinum blonde with dark roots. Before committing to this colour, I did a lot of research about products and how to maintain the colour and health of my hair. I also understood that I would not reach the colour I desire in one sitting but in stages. It is expensive and takes time, so I would recommend to anyone thinking of colouring their hair to do their research before hand.

Phase ONE

Melissa made me feel safe and reassured. Cutting off years and years of hair is a big deal! I was surprised how much I love my hair short. I thought I would look like a boy, but I actually felt more feminine and fun. The cut instantly made my hair look thicker and healthier, I am thrilled with how bouncy and cute it looks.

Colour is unpredictable, you just don’t know how your hair is going to take. Everything went to plan and I was delighted with how light Melissa was able to get my hair with just two bleaches! She used L’Oréal Platinum Lightening paste and developer. With this she also used Olaplex Part 1, any good hair stylist or colour tech will tell you that it is the holy grail of preserving the integrity of your hair. She then left Olaplex Part 2 in my hair for 10 minutes after using L’Oréal P01 Toner to tone my hair.

If you watch the video you will see that we talk ALOT. I couldn’t help but laugh at myself when editing the video! It was so much fun having my hair done by my friend, in total Melissa spent about 5 and a half hours on me. She then did one more bleach and toner the next day to lighten my hair some more.

Results

It’s not going to be a quick journey to get to where I want to be but I am thrilled with how the colour looks so far. I will now have regular appointments to maintain my hair. Again, it’s a commitment. I have purchased all the products recommended to keep my hair healthy but also maintain the colour. I’ll be writing about it soon and also documenting my journey in achieving that platinum blond hair I love so much. Watch this space!

FENTY Match Stix Trio

Quick and Easy Contouring using FENTY Beauty’s Match Stix Trio

I am a mum on the go. With school runs and a business to run I don’t often have time to put on a full face of makeup but this is where Fenty Beauty’s Match Stix Trio comes in.

Conceal, Contour, Blush and Buff

The match Stix trio comes in a three and consists of a concealer, a contour stick and a highlighter/blush stick. I ordered this trio from Harvey Nichols. You can pick and buy any colour you like separately at £21 but it works out cheaper to buy a set. Okay, £46 seems pricey, but it works out as approx £15 each and with the pigment being so creamy and strong it should last quite long.

Step one: Conceal. I like to conceal under my eyes to hide that I’ve been up twice in the night with a teething baby. Also my forehead down to my nose and under my cheekbones. The colour I’m using is Bamboo.

Step two: Contour. One line is enough, the pigment is that good. I draw a line along my cheekbones, the sides of my forehead/temples, and down the sides of my nose. By doing this I am defining my features. I’m using Mocha.

Step three: Buff. Of course you can apply the blush/highlighter at this point, but I like to know where I stand with how well the concealer and contour blends first before I finish with blush/highlighter. I use circular motions with my buffing brush. This product is like a crayon, it warms on your skin and softens so buffs and blends so easily.

Step four: Blush/Highlighter. I am using Trippin. This colour to me is more of a blush rather than highlighter, so I use this on the apples of my cheeks to get that glow.

I highly recommend buying the concealer/contour buffing brush. Firstly, it’s seriously cute and secondly it is compact and small so can fit into your clutch or small bag. One thing I love so much about this is that its magnetic!! They all clip together effortlessly including the brush, so no more getting lost in your bag or in my case, baby bag. Also comes in handy as an emergency baby toy (ha!).

Without eye makeup or brows, I can be out of the house in 5 mins using Fenty Match stix. There are so many colours to match all skin types and colours. It’s quick, its easy, perfect for a busy mum like me. I love Fenty Match Stix!
